‘’I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own’’

-Viva la Vida

This was the first song of Coldplay I came across 2 years ago. At first it sounded too boring and monotonous and I wonder why the lyrics felt so blank. But eventually when I grew tired of my taste for drum and tin music, I turned back to Coldplay and slowly I began to appreciate it.

In My Place’ and “The Scientist’’ hailed the band’s position. And in the following years, the release of “X &Y’’ and “Viva la Viva’’ made this British band a global artist, adding to their existing fan base of “Intelligent’’ listeners. After a gap of 5 years, they are back with their latest album “Mylo Xyloto’’, a much more distinctive work the band is known for has given singles like “Paradise’’, which won them an award for the ‘Best Rock Video’ “Every tear is a Waterfall’’ and “Princess of China’’ and “Hurts like Heaven’’.

With so many so commercial acts being successful, Coldplay has its own flavour and a very addictive feel to its music. With intelligent and actually meaningful lyrics, they come with a different melody every time. The band plays “Limestone Rock’’ as compared to “Hard Rock’’.The music is meditative and has a very romantic feel to it. One can truly connect with songs as they are a true reflection upon themselves. They also are involved in Concerts most of the time and continue to work for many charitable causes, contributing 10% of the band’s revenue generously.

‘’A band’s only unique thing is its chemistry, especially if none of you are prodigious players or particularly handsome. The one thing you have is your uniqueness, so we hold on to that’’ Chris Martins

And with an indomitable spirit and belief in music, Coldplay strives to work even hard and give rock a different name.

Audacity to swindle, plethora of hypocrisy

Tangling the mankind into the unknown.

The day I came, saw people being thrown away.

Whatever I’ve seen, is a lie I perceived.

Every time, false is amplified, stresses upon

Moulded with fallacy, followed by the colours of complicity

World is a lie, maybe it’s meant to be

I’ve been a trial to such phases, so do believe me.

Do believe in me when I say I can

Resume your faith in me and get along

Because there’s no ordain, no limit to lie.

Behind the eyes, lies two open ended doors – red and white

The red dominates and devours the handful

“Resist, keep calm and believe in truth.”

Says white, a revolt against the outrage

But unfortunately, humans have stepped forward

No longer does white act as a barrier to prevent people from being bruised.

Oh, I weep for humanity.

I gaze into an air of darkness, and retrospect.

Consider a thought if I actually know of what all lies beneath me

I’ve been a prolific spectator to this madness, so do believe me.

So it is disappointing to hear and surprises me every time,

Murderers hunt when they want to, and get away easily

Like nothing happened, like not a leaf rustled.

If only they could hear the cries unheard.

Even hearing about them, sickens me from inside

But I wonder, doesn’t it prick their conscience?

Even if we catch them and hang to death, all our efforts will bear nothing

Monster is killed, monstrosity isn’t.

They’ll be back to haunt us all the time

Enough of the sinister, I feel even the dead plead to me

Let’s not be a silent witness to all this suffering

Because tomorrow might be our turn,

And yet we plan to watch the world burn?

This must stop. This must stop.

Stamping the progression of these blood hounds before nightmares of the unjust eat me

Those days will arrive soon enough .So do believe me

In the land of success and triumph, his misery prevails.

Keeps to himself, his woes and sufferings.

A sudden quick flash in his eyes signifies the opportunity he awaits.

But alas, his airplane of dream shatters.

So he runs back to his room; sobs to himself, attenuating himself to the core.

He stops; he isn’t the one who yammers. A believer not sceptical he is.

He’ll be back on his feet to shape a vision he beholds.

To fall while running doesn’t bother him, he’s an object of failures,

A prey to cheat who falls for deception; subject to sweat he’d be chipped to perfection.

With all the qualities he’s now ready to take the world. And with every step he came closer to his dream.

Now at the he’s witnessed his victory, he breaks down. It’s something he can’t describe.

He nurtured his conquest, took pains of all sorts,

Now look where he stands, against all odds.

“And then rang the temple bells” isn’t exactly a poem, but an extremely dark thought. It is a story of a man traumatised by one of the recent nightmares he had. He narrates his nightmare to a doctor, a psychologist to be more precise because he hopes that he would be would be of great help to him. However, it turns out to be a bad idea as he completely loses his mind, turning him into a cannibal.

A world far away from reality and sanity. Our Inception.

But from what I discovered from the last night, I would call it a demonic piece of deception.

Emotionally superficial, a horrifying envisage and an epitome of cruelty

That’s how I recall a dream that took away my morality.

Coated with disgust, dubbed with sand

No signs of life. Perplexed I stood in the middle of that land.

Felt like the wind punched me, my instincts pleaded to scream

As far as I could remember, I wept bitterly in that dream.

“So, What did you see last night, what exactly happened?”

“What devilry it was? You look pale. And also troubled”

“Son. Breathe, think for a while and hold your thoughts’’

“Because a line can only be drawn when we have all the dots’’

The wind blew. The sun was shining. No. IT DID NOT.

The wing stroked hard upon my chest, wild and wicked.

And the sun grew hotter, indicating its displeasure.

I looked up in the sky, as if I was searching for a lost treasure.

But it wasn’t the treasure that mattered, you see?

For what I was searching for was myself, only thing that mattered to me.

“Son, I understand the plight you going through.”

“But you must listen, position yourself together and get together your shoes’’

“You are ill for certain. I’ll search for your prescriptions in one of these cupboards”

“Going by all that you’ve told me till now, I fail to conclude, to what we are heading towards.”

I stood up, finally. To get a hang of that place.

I did see someone. Oh yes. But I can’t remember his face.

All of a sudden, a fiery mob thronged towards my direction

They were hounds, prepared to devour my life.

I ran for my life, as if I was being hunted for sparking off a civil strife.

More I try, I pin myself harder.

And If I ever die, doctor, would they talk of me as a martyr?

I chuckled. Fragments of insanity started tickling my shin.

“It is too soon to lose your mind, son.”

“The dream is getting better of you; it is a hard battle to be won”

“Could you remember seeing something more specific? An incident or anything as such?’’

‘’Though it’s of no avail, or it would contribute to your condition much”

“I can see it clearly on your face; the devil’s had his touch”

I ran as far as I could, little did I care about the direction.

The sand burned with my shadow, blood dawned upon my reflection.

I stopped. My feet froze all of a sudden.

My hands started swelling. And my thoughts were driven.

There lied a corpse of the dead. He was stabbed with lunacy.

I was bewildered. I felt pity. But I stopped.

Who am I to feel for him? What is for me to be interested?

For I’ve stepped on a soil where no one can be trusted.

I revolted my urge. I reached out for the knife.

My hands froze. Yet again.

Not too much different from the corpse, I could also feel the pain.

And then. My ill fate began when a mob from nowhere sprung into action.

They thought me as murderer, doctor.

Touching a knife did not eventually seem to be brave.

For god how buffoonish I was to step my foot in the grave.

I scurried my way to nowhere, as I searched for a short termed refuge.

I shouted to celebrate my glory, oblivious to an unutterable calamity.

I stopped. Paranoid I went. I started screaming.

For I could hear the sound of their anger. Amplified with rage.

I feel on my knees. My eyes became blood shot red.

My nerves refused to believe. Senses failed to retrieve.

I became restless, erratic and space bound.

I could feel the devil, so unnerving was its sound

Just when I managed to duck my way through this nightmare, just when I found the safest room

And then rang the temple bells, indicating my doom.

Suddenly. The windows shuddered. The furniture cranked.

“You alright son? Should I get you water? “

Little did he knew that he was about to be a testimony to his own slaughter.

“Goodness gracious son! Stay from me!”

‘’What sorcery is this? How horrendous is this devilry?’’

“Had you resisted the devil, I would have bestowed you with chivalry”

These were his last words. He was bitten after this.

The world is caving in; it’s building on a tension

Before I conclude, ponder on this question.

Would we resume our faith in good and continue to pray?

Or would we take these satanic verses catch us and slay?

Once upon a time when the day was lost,

Once upon a time when the unimaginable was thought.

Just another ordinary day of life it was when an air of indifference decided to stay,

And tried to wound my head with 50 shades of grey.

But I looked down the window and found a way out.

It was pattering. It was neither pleasant nor plausible,

In the middle of the night, some dreams are horrible.

Hard decisions are never easy to make, but I had already lost my train of thoughts.

I had to leave, as I was yearning for answers.

Yes! Every step I took made me feel uneasy because my walk of life had just started,

For eternity I had waited for this moment, no sooner did I realise.

But why am I afraid? Am I not the person worth their salt or sand?

Or I choose to walkway? When it’s for me to take a stand.

I question myself; I’m troubled with this thought,

And the next thing you see is that these lights go out.

While I’m out walking these narrow and shady streets, I see the sufferers.

Don’t I feel their pain and agony?

For them I am a man on mission, who walks to solve this unknown mystery.

As I pursue my search for the answers in the horizon,

Little do I know, not all is safe and sound.

Dangers are inevitable and unkempt; all you have to do is look around.

It’s pathetic how we make choices,

Not because we have any, but because we lack one.

As I march my way forward, an infantry stands.

Corrupt, Naive, Lethal and Biased.

‘I dare not look them in eye because heartless they stand’

‘I could remember innocent civilians, lifeless and hanged’

But there struck a sudden impulse to answer these stressful calls,

To lend a helping hand, the next time someone falls.

Yet again, helpless and miserable I doubt my role,

For why I can’t raise my voice? Even if I’ve had enough of this human toll?

I question myself; I’m troubled with this thought,

And the next thing you see is that these lights go out.

‘Here comes the line of collared folk, to see this half of this globe I’m obliged

‘For long I wanted to see for what it is’s like to be on the other side’

Stashed with gold and piles of silver they build their castles in the air,

While some struggle so they can breathe, to talk of fair.

Into this land of price I walk, I can see some fingers cut and sliced,

But on being asked, society labels them ‘’overpriced’’

That isn’t enough, it’s farther where it gets tough.

In their containments they sweat, toil and balance their desires,

For centuries they have been laughed about, mocked and disgusted

A man stands to earn his bills in spite of new found hindrance,

He’s killed by the musclemen, does it make a difference?

I turn back my steps because I’ve seen too much,

While some answers came out clear, others faded into the darkness of these clouds.

A new anthem, perhaps a new cry has emerged,

There now stands a conflict of opinions, while they preach of ‘one world

It’s never to chose a side, and perhaps forever to decide

Do good and bad ever stand out, or often coincide?

I question myself; I’m troubled with this thought,

And the next thing you see is that these lights go out
